Fraud Prevention, Transaction Monitoring & Lawful Requests

How VSL protects legitimate commerce using transaction evidence, provider-confirmed payment states, account and security signals, reported-content review and proportionate investigation controls while keeping private seller-customer content private and access-controlled.

Proportionate controls: VSL uses the information generated by a real commerce, payment, security, dispute or support workflow to protect users and the platform. Public content can be reviewed and removed when it is reported or breaches VSL rules. Private seller-customer content is not made public or routinely opened for content moderation; relevant private material is reviewed by authorised VSL personnel when a participant reports it, opens a dispute or support case, or when a valid legal request requires review.

Protecting legitimate commerce

Fraud prevention is built around transaction evidence and platform integrity rather than treating ordinary customers as suspicious.

VSL connects listings, RFQs, quotes, invoices, payment requests, Virtual POS activity, provider events, payouts, delivery evidence, disputes and account-security records. That connection gives VSL enough context to detect inconsistencies without turning every transaction into an intrusive review.

Most legitimate activity moves through the normal workflow without manual intervention. Additional review is triggered when the transaction, account, provider response, report or dispute contains a signal that requires verification.

VSL does not hold custody of customer or seller funds. VSL can control its own payment orchestration, commerce state, payout instruction, account capabilities and platform access. Provider-side custody, processing, conversion and settlement remain with Fincra, NOWPayments or Busha for the applicable rail.

Transaction monitoring

VSL monitors the integrity of the transaction record from request creation through provider confirmation, settlement and later dispute events.

StageInformation VSL checks or recordsPurpose
Payment request / POSSeller, customer where known, order/invoice/payment-request reference, amount, currency, payment method, purpose/reason, source channel and timestamps.Keep the payment tied to the correct commercial instruction.
Provider initiationVSL reference, provider/merchant reference, selected rail, expected amount/currency and provider request state.Prevent an unrelated provider event from settling the wrong VSL record.
Provider confirmationProvider status, webhook/callback integrity, reference match, amount/currency match, account or virtual-account match where applicable, blockchain status/confirmations for crypto and duplicate/replay state.Make payment truth dependent on trusted provider evidence rather than a browser screen or message.
Payout / settlementVerified paid state, payout destination or wallet/network, provider recipient/customer reference, payout status, prior payout state, reconciliation evidence and applicable KYC/KYB status.Reduce duplicate, misdirected or unsupported settlement instructions.
Account and securityAuthentication/session events, IP/device/request metadata where available, ownership checks, failed or unusual security events and sensitive-setting changes relevant to the transaction.Identify account-integrity problems without relying on message content alone.
After paymentRefunds, reversals, chargebacks, delivery evidence, dispute reports, moderation records and provider reconciliation results.Keep later financial or fulfilment events connected to the original transaction.

Core fraud-prevention controls in the payment flow

The same controls that make payments reliable also reduce fraud and accidental misapplication.

  • Reference matching: VSL ties provider events back to the expected VSL payment or order reference.
  • Amount, currency and method checks: a valid event must match the payment path it is intended to settle; card, bank-transfer and crypto states are not treated as interchangeable.
  • Provider-confirmed state: a redirect, client-side success animation, chat statement or AI response does not create a paid transaction.
  • Webhook and callback integrity: provider-specific verification and server-side validation are used before financial state is accepted.
  • Idempotency and duplicate protection: repeated provider notifications or repeated action requests do not create repeated commercial effects.
  • Ownership and KYC/KYB checks: seller, recipient and provider identity state are used where the workflow requires them.
  • Payout gating and reconciliation: settlement instructions are connected to verified payment state and later reconciled with provider evidence.
  • Dispute and reversal awareness: later chargebacks, refunds, reversals and disputes remain attached to the transaction history rather than overwriting it.

Risk analysis and proportionate review

VSL uses evidence already connected to the commerce workflow and escalates only when the activity needs more context.

Examples of review triggers include a provider mismatch, duplicate or replayed event, inconsistent amount/currency/method, failed ownership or identity state, repeated payment failures, unusual payout changes, a reported transaction purpose, a dispute pattern, a provider risk response or public content that appears to breach VSL rules.

Depending on the issue, VSL can require additional verification, pause or reject a VSL payment/payout instruction, restrict a feature, preserve relevant records, remove public content, request supporting evidence, route the issue to the applicable provider or suspend platform access. Because VSL is not the custodian, these actions control VSL's software and orchestration layer; they do not convert VSL into the holder of provider-controlled funds.

Public content, reports and moderation

Public marketplace content can be reviewed because it is intentionally published to other users.

Listings, public seller/profile information, product media, public comments and other public marketplace material can be reviewed by VSL administrators and can be reported by users. When public material is illegal, deceptive, unsafe, prohibited by VSL rules, infringes rights or creates a material platform risk, VSL can restrict, hide, delist or remove the content and can limit the associated account or commerce capability.

A report does not automatically prove wrongdoing. VSL uses the report together with the content, account history, transaction evidence and other relevant records before applying a proportionate platform action.

Private seller-customer content

Private conversations and private transaction material are treated differently from public marketplace content.

Private messages, private order discussions and private evidence are access-controlled to the seller, customer and the systems required to deliver the service. VSL does not publish private content or treat a private conversation as a public moderation surface.

Authorised VSL personnel review relevant private material when either participant reports the conversation, opens a dispute, asks VSL to investigate a safety/fraud/support issue, or when a valid legal request requires VSL to retrieve responsive records. The review is limited to the information reasonably connected to that case. Reporting private material to VSL for investigation does not make that material public.

Security and transaction systems can still evaluate non-public technical and transaction metadata, payment state and provider signals needed to protect the account and transaction. That processing does not turn the underlying conversation into public content.

Disputes, reports and evidence preservation

A dispute creates a controlled reason to bring the relevant transaction evidence together.

  • VSL can preserve the relevant quote, invoice, payment request, provider reference, payment state, delivery events, reported messages or media, moderation actions and support correspondence.
  • Only records connected to the dispute or investigation are reviewed; unrelated private conversations are not required merely because one transaction is disputed.
  • Where a payment provider, bank, card network, crypto processor or courier has its own evidence, VSL can use or request the provider-side record available through the applicable integration or review process.
  • Evidence can be retained beyond normal product use when it remains necessary for an active dispute, fraud investigation, chargeback, security incident, provider review or legal obligation.

Lawful requests from law enforcement and public authorities

VSL responds to valid legal process without giving authorities unrestricted access to user accounts or private communications.

When VSL receives a request from law enforcement, a regulator, court or other competent authority, VSL reviews the request for the requesting authority, legal basis, jurisdiction, scope, identifiers, date range and the categories of information requested. VSL provides only responsive information that VSL controls and that it is legally required or permitted to disclose.

VSL does not provide a standing portal or blanket direct access to private customer accounts. A request for information held by a payment or custody provider can require the authority to obtain that information from Fincra, NOWPayments, Busha, a bank, card network, blockchain service or another relevant provider because VSL does not hold every provider-side record.

Where the law requires preservation, VSL can preserve identified records while the legal process is completed. User notification, confidentiality and disclosure timing are handled according to the applicable law and any binding restriction attached to the request.

Information VSL can hold for a lawful or fraud investigation

The available record depends on which VSL features the user actually used.

AccountAccount/profile identifiers, verified contact information, authentication/security events and KYC/KYB status or references where collected.
CommerceListings, RFQs, quotes, invoices, payment requests, order references, public content and related timestamps.
PaymentsVSL payment reference, amount, currency, method, provider reference/status, webhook/callback evidence, payout state and reconciliation records.
DeliveryDelivery address/contact data, delivery events, proof or PIN/acceptance records where the delivery workflow generated them.
Private case evidencePrivate messages or files only when they are relevant and available to VSL for a reported dispute, support/safety case or valid legal request.
SecurityRequest, session, device/IP or application-security metadata that VSL retained for account integrity, fraud analysis or incident investigation.

Privacy boundaries remain in force during an investigation

Fraud prevention does not cancel VSL's data-minimisation and confidentiality obligations.

  • VSL does not sell customer data to advertisers or data brokers as a separate product.
  • Investigation access is limited to authorised personnel and the case, provider or legal purpose that requires it.
  • Public-content enforcement does not make private messages public.
  • KYC material, payment credentials, secrets and sensitive identity evidence remain restricted even when an account is under review.
  • VSL records the commercial and security evidence needed to administer its platform while provider-side custody and regulated money movement remain with the applicable provider.
